{"id":1102,"date":"2017-06-12T10:18:18","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T08:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arbios.org\/?page_id=1102\/"},"modified":"2017-06-12T10:23:07","modified_gmt":"2017-06-12T08:23:07","slug":"agroagri","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.arbios.org\/en\/agroagri\/","title":{"rendered":"Agro\/Agri"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h1>Agro\/Agri<\/h1>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>Welcome to France\u2019s largest pasture<\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Boasting 41,000 jobs (6.1% of jobs in the region, double the national average) and agricultural production worth around 2 billion euros, in Auvergne farming is a leading sector which ranks agrifood number two in the industrial sectors for its added value.\u2028Auvergne has four areas of excellence: cereals which relies on production from the Limagne plain, meat with renowned beef products but also sheep, pork and poultry, dairy which counts 9,000 producers, and water.<br \/>\nIn Auvergne, agriculture takes up more than 1.5 million hectares of utilised agricultural acreage, in other words 57% of the territory that has consequently been named France\u2019s largest pasture.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=&#8221;blocs-recherche&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; el_class=&#8221;bloc-gris&#8221;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=&#8221;bloc-picto bloc-rose&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;704&#8243; img_size=&#8221;&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Cereals<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Limagne Plain is renowned for growing field seeds: cereal crops (wheat, barley, maize), oilseed crops (rape and sunflower) and sugar beet. 270,000 hectares are devoted to cereal production.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Limagrain, the fourth biggest seed producer in the world and a flagship grain producer, has its headquarters on Biop\u00f4le Clermont-Limagne in Saint Beauzire. Limagrain invests nearly 15% of its turnover in research and development (250 million) and employs some 2,000 researchers in 55 countries, which, along with INRA and Michelin, makes it one of the main research centres in the region.<br \/>\nC\u00e9r\u00e9ales Vall\u00e9e competitiveness cluster draws together a set of unique skills in terms of innovation in cereals for the development of joint projects, with 80 members and nearly 900 public and private stakeholders involved in research, industry and training in the cereals sectors.<br \/>\n<\/span>Le p\u00f4le de comp\u00e9titivit\u00e9 C\u00e9r\u00e9ales Vall\u00e9e r\u00e9unit quant \u00e0 lui un plateau de comp\u00e9tences unique en mati\u00e8re d\u2019innovation dans les c\u00e9r\u00e9ales pour d\u00e9velopper des projets collaboratifs, avec 80 adh\u00e9rents et pr\u00e8s de 900 acteurs publics et priv\u00e9s impliqu\u00e9s dans la recherche, l&#8217;industrie et la formation des fili\u00e8res c\u00e9r\u00e9ali\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">C\u00e9r\u00e9ales Vall\u00e9e also runs the Territorial Innovation Laboratory (LIT) for Field Seeds, a partnership hub dedicated to the design, evaluation and dissemination of innovative solutions for and with farmers, organised around Limagne-Val Allier, an area of 200,000 hectares. The LIT teams up farmers, people involved in research, training and development, companies ranging from major groups to startups, State representatives, local authorities and civic associations who want to make their region a benchmark in Europe for the research and development of innovative solutions inspired by the principles of agro-ecology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In parallel to cereal production and milling, there is also an industry focused on animal food (Alivert, Jambon SA, Pet Food Plus, Thivat Nutrition Animale).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; el_class=&#8221;bloc-gris&#8221;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=&#8221;bloc-picto bloc-marron&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;707&#8243; img_size=&#8221;&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Meat<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In its mountainous part, Auvergne is an extensive livestock farming region geared to the production of milk and meat. Home to both the Salers and Aubrac breed of cattle, Charolais cows are also reared here. The &#8220;Ferrandaise&#8221; is an old local breed that is becoming popular again.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Although the main emphasis is on meat for butchers, the meat industry is also focused on poultry breeding (ten red labels), pork (&#8220;Porc d&#8217;Auvergne\u201d label) and cured meats. Every year in October, Auvergne organises the \u201cSommet de l\u2019Elevage\u201d livestock breeding show in Cournon d\u2019Auvergne, the leading event of this type in Europe.<br \/>\nThe four biggest industrial groups in the sector are Arriv\u00e9 Auvergne, Socopa, Doux and Celvia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ADIV, the Agri-Food Technical Institute for the meat industry is currently French leader for providing R&amp;D, audit, consultancy, specialist and training services to the meat industry. Benefiting from the ITAI (<i>Institut Technique Agro Industriel<\/i> \u2013 Food Technological Institute) qualification and a CRO (Contract Research Organization) approval, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Bpifrance, ADIV provides customised, modular services to support and structure innovation projects, thereby accompanying businesses, according to their needs, from an idea through to its industrialisation. For example, product range extension, increased added value for raw materials, creation of products using new processes or breakthrough innovation technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=&#8221;blocs-recherche&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; el_class=&#8221;bloc-gris&#8221;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=&#8221;bloc-picto bloc-orange&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;705&#8243; img_size=&#8221;&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Water<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]With 109 mineral springs, Auvergne is the leading region in Europe for water production and boasts six national or international brands. Among these are Vichy C\u00e9lestins and Vichy Saint Yorre, Chateldon, Rozana and the best known, Volvic. The mineral water sector is particularly well represented with Volvic, but also the Alma Group (Saint Yorre, Vichy C\u00e9lestins, Chateldon and Rozana), Sainte Marguerite, Ch\u00e2teauneuf, Saint Di\u00e9ry, Saint G\u00e9ron, Arvie, SMDA (Mont Dore) and Aquamark (Laqueuille).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; el_class=&#8221;bloc-gris&#8221;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=&#8221;bloc-picto bloc-vert&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;706&#8243; img_size=&#8221;&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Cheese<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Auvergne is a major region for the production of cheese. In 2011, it produced 50,000 tons \u2013 a quarter of the French production of PDO cheeses.
